Olive Baker, Liverpool
I am a 24 year old professional Moto cross rider and during a practice session I had an accident and damaged my right knee. Eventually I was referred to an orthopaedic surgeon who explained that I had suffered an avulsion fracture which is where a ligament and a piece of bone had broken off from the rest of the bone. I was therefore looking at ACL repair surgery but, and the big but was, there was a long waiting list. My main race sponsor was extremely concerned as it would probably mean I would be out of racing for a couple of seasons, but had heard that another rider had received treatment overseas and looked into it for me.
Shortly after that I was in contact with a patient coordinator, Romiel, at Orthopaedic Riga, who assured me that I could have an operation in one and a half weeks time and that Dr. Wissam Raphael was an expert in this field. So, after the initial formalities all the arrangements were made for me.
Ten days later I flew to Riga with the operation scheduled for two days after. I couldn’t believe how quickly everything had been organised.
Before I knew it the operation was complete and I was sitting up in bed watching television in my private room. The staff were brilliant during my three day stay and although I’m a bit fussy, the food was great.
The surgeon was very pleased with the operation and said that I would heal quickly.
So, a big thank you to all the staff at Orthopaedic Riga for organising the trip and taking care of everything.* This is feedback from our former patients, and such an outcome cannot be guaranteed or promised.
